Bob the Skull is an air spirit that resides inside a bleached, white, human skull which sits on a shelf in the sub-basement lab of the apartment of one Harry Dresden - wizard. Bob is a spirit of intellect and is a repository, of sorts, of magical (and quite possibly, other) knowledge for Harry. He is well-versed in potions and spells and magical creatures.

In his 'natural' form, he is a flowing cloud of orange light. He is only allowed to leave his skull residence with the permission of Harry. In his spirit form, he cannot move about in daylight, as it is harmful to him, but can 'ride' in another's body (usually Harry's cat, Mister), but again, only with Harry's permission to leave the skull.
